Then, there's the additional fuel economy you get from a diesel. I estimate that a diesel will give about 20% - 25% better fuel mileage than a similar gas engine, due mostly to the inherent characteristics of the diesel design. But, diesel fuel sometimes costs more than gasoline, so your real cash outlay for fuel may be about even.

Diesel motorhomes usually have a heavy-duty transmission and driveline to go with the diesel engine. Gasoline-powered motorhomes normally have a strengthened automotive-type transmission - this is normally the weak link in a gasoline-powered motorhome. Not so with diesels, they sometimes have a super heavy-duty transmission made by Allison (essentially a modified heavy truck transmission) to cope with the diesel's prodigious power output.

Diesel motorhomes are a high quality motorhome, usually worth every penny of their additional costs with increased performance and durability.
